Bengaluru: Three management students were kidnapped by a gang of armed men on at 8 PM. The gang of five allegedly took the students from a restaurant in MSR Nagar, where they were having dinner to a house and tortured the trio, demanding a ransom of Rs 5 Lakh.

The trio were assaulted with clubs and when two of the students managed to convince their captors that they come from families of simple means, they were released while they held on to the other. The 20-year-old student who remained a hostage was slashed with a knife and coerced into calling a cousin based in Bengaluru for ransom. The cousin promptly informed the Sadashivanagar police who set up special teams late that same night.

The kidnappers, three of whom have been identified as Nousheen, Deepu and Manish had chosen a spot on the Outer Ring Road near Mathikere where they planned to do the exchange, to which the cousin brought the police. The kidnappers managed to flee the spot before the police were able to apprehend them. In the chaos, they left the third student behind.

The rescued youth narrated his ordeal to the police and his story was corroborated by the other two who were kidnapped. The students were robbed and assaulted before they were forcefully taken from the restaurant and out in a car waiting outside.

The survivor was rushed to a hospital to be treated following which he filed a complaint.

According to the third student, the kidnappers were locals who target students from affluent families. Although the police have not received such a complaint previously, they have begun an investigation into the matter.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and later filed a complaint. “He told us that the kidnappers were local residents who targeted students from rich families. We have not received any such complaint in the past but are investigating his statement”, said a police officer.

The police on Friday, registered a case against the three accused kidnappers under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including Sec 307 (attempt to murder), 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
