There is something called consent: Siddu tweets at PM over Art. 370 row

Bengaluru: While some have hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their move to scrap Article 370, the Opposition has come down heavy on the NDA-led Central government. They have termed August 5, the day the Bill to scrap Article 370 was passed in the Rajya Sabha, as a “Black Day” in the history of Indian democracy.

In Karnataka too, Congress leaders, especially former CM Siddaramaiah, have opposed the bill and waged a cold war on the PM, taking him on in a series of tweets on Tuesday, August 6.

“There is something called ‘CONSENT’ for anything. Just because one has assumed that they are entitled, it is not so. In J&K case, @BJP4India had just got the mandate but not the Consent to abrogate Art. 370. This has set the wrong precedence when it comes to trust worthiness,” Siddaramaiah tweeted.

“If controlling terrorism is the reason, how did Art. 370 stop Central govt from maintaining law & order? Art 370 gives Central govt complete control over military, communication & foreign affairs. Ongoing events suggests @narendramodi will takeover as a despotic ruler,” he continued.

Siddaramaiah also tweeted series of questions: “According to the promises made in your election manifesto, you say you have revoked ‘special status’ @narendramodi. Was suspending the Assembly, by putting the political leaders of J&K under house arrest and beefing up the security forces in J&K mentioned in your manifesto?”

“According to the records, it is said that more number of civilians and security personnel had died due to terrorist attacks, only after @BJP4India had come to power at the Centre. Was it because of Article 370 or was it because of your incompetence?”

“When India had won wars over Pakistan and when the terrorists were shunted out of the Golden Temple, Indira Gandhi did not use it for her political mileage or gain. She did it as an act of responsibility. @narendramodi, why do you take all the credit for your political mileage?”

“As the J&K problem is now solved, will you at least concentrate on the economic crisis of the country? In the state of Karnataka, drought and floods are devastating many lives, @PMOIndia will you shift your attention towards it? @INCKarnataka.”
