‘Tala Tarangini’ fame Vidwan T A S Mani passes away at age 84

Bengaluru: Renowned mrudanga artiste Vidwan T A S Mani (84) breathed his last on Saturday, March 14, during a programme, where he was an observer.

According to reports, Mani attended a music competition organized at the Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira in Jayanagar and was observing the competition, when he collapsed and died.

Later, his body was brought to his residence in Malleshwaram. His mortal remains are kept for public viewing at his residence.

According to sources in the family, the last rites will be performed on Sunday, March 15, at the Harishchnadra Ghat.

It can be recalled that Vidwan Mani was an A Grade artiste at the All India Radio (AIR). He was a student of Vidwan Palghat C K Aiyyamani Iyar since he was 10 years old. He established the Karnataka College of Percussion, and from the past five decades, students have been trained in the institute.

Mani has performed with various bigwigs of the music industry and has also performed during live shows.

He was known for his international percussion ensemble called “Tala Tarangini”.

Meanwhile, he is survived by his wife Vidushi R A Ramamani and son Vidwan Karthik Mani.
