Tabrez Ansari case: IIM-B students, faculty write letter to Modi seeking fresh probe-1Bengaluru: A section of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting for a fresh probe into Tabrez Ansari mob lynching case reported from Jharkhand.
A 24-year-old Ansari was tied to a pole and beaten with rods by a group of people, who forced him to chant 'Jai Sri Ram' over an alleged theft. Tabrez, who was in judicial custody for theft, complained of ill health on June 22, five days after the attack. The visuals of the attack were all over the media showing how the mob assaulted him ruthlessly. Recently the police scaled-down the charges from murder to culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304 of IPC) against the 11 accused in the lynching case, citing that the move was based on the medical reports of the deceased.

Following this development, as many as 16 faculty members and 85 students and non-teaching staff of the IIM-Bangalore wrote a letter to the PM.
“We, the undersigned faculty, staff and students of IIM Bangalore express shock and dismay over how Jharkhand police has handled the lynching of Mr Tabrez Ansari. We urge you to act swiftly and decisively by directing the state government to institute a fresh probe. It is the constitutional duty of the state to protect the life and liberty of all citizens," the letter reads appealing for fresh probe into the case.
On the other hand, the family members of Tabrez have demanded the police to revoke the murder charges against the accused, while his wife Shahista Parvez has threatened to fast-unto-death if the murder charges are not revoked.
