Bengaluru: State labour and skill development minister Santosh Lad has announced that soon state labour department will release an App to trace and monitor the rehabilitation of child labourers in the state.
Addressing an event organised to mark the world day against child labour at Vidhana Soudha, Lad informed that this app will enable the state government to find out how various initiatives are being implemented in the state beside the educational progress of rescued child labourers.
Abolition of child labour in next five years
Lad expressed confidence that in next five years state will not have any child labourers. “With the support of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) of Bengaluru, department is implementing a revised action plan on child labour. Presently, Karnataka is in the 10th place in terms of numbers of child labourers. In urban Karnataka child labour is in 2.9% while in rural Karnataka it is 4.3% as per the census 2011. By 2022 we want zero child labor in the state,” he said.
