Belagavi: Predicting a mid-term poll anytime soon, former chief minister Siddaramaiah said that the BJP government at the state is an illegitimate government that has come into existence due to ‘operation Kamala’ and hence it will not last for long.
“Money and pressure tactics have been put to use to purchase the MLAs. The government does not have the mandate of the people in its favour,” said Siddaramaiah adding that the Congress, which is sitting in the opposition is against the communal BJP and not against its former coalition partner JDS.
“We are not trying to settle scores with the JDS. Our fight is against the BJP, which is an out and out communal force,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking about Indira Canteen, he said that the government will have to face harsh consequences if it decides to shut down the Indira Canteen.
“The state has Rs 2.34 lakh crore in its exchequers. Out of this, if it fails to provide Rs 400 cr for Indira Canteen, one can understand the concern this government has for the poor,” he said adding that the BBMP Commissioner had told him that the government is not willing to release funds for the Indira Canteen.
“The local governing bodies cannot afford to pay so much money. The government will have to take care of Indira canteen project,” he said. He further said that he will write to CM BS Yediyurappa to make sure that Indira Canteens are not closed.
