Bengaluru: During the state cabinet meeting on Thursday, it was decided to withdraw the BBMP division bill, which is pending for approval from the President of India.

The bill was passed by both the houses of the State Legislature four years ago when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister.

This bill was enacted as per the recommendation made by the BBMP division committee led by B S Patil, former chief secretary of the Government of Karnataka and a senior Congress leader.

Now, under pressure from the Vokkaliga leaders who are opposing the move, the state cabinet has decided to withdraw the bill.

Meanwhile, former DCM R Ashok claimed that the cabinet’s decision is a victory for the BJP agitation. “We have been opposing this decision and the bill since day one. At least now the state government understood our concern,” he stated.
