Bengaluru: Shivaji memorial park in Mumbai and Vallabhai Patel statue in Gujarat have been criticised by many as the governments concerned are spending tax payer’s money on such projects. However, next in line to take up a similar project is the Karnataka government.

It is believed that the state government appointed committee led by Dr. Gor Ru Channabasavappa has recommended building a Mahamane and Anubhava Mantapa, at an estimated cost of Rs.604 crores in Basava Kalyana where Basavanna waged war against superstitious beliefs and social evils like caste system.

According to the committee report, this Maha Mane will need 25 to 30 acres of land. Committee wants all the structures in stone to ensure that it will be safe for next 1,000 years. Anubhava Mantapa will come up in around 7.5 acres of land. It can be recalled that this committee was appointed in May 2016 to come up with recommendations on reconstructing the Anubhava Mantapa of Basavanna.

Committee has also suggested to take up measures to preserve Vachanas. Interestingly, the committee has recommended the state goveernment to follow both Veerashaiva and Lingayata values while constructing this Mahamane.
