Bengaluru: The state government has decided to bring in an amendment to the police transfer act to bring more efficiency in the police force and transparency in transfers of personnel.

According to sources, as per the plans envisaged, all the police personnel, both lower rung and officers grade must serve across the state. Presently it has been alleged that thousands of influential officials and staff are able to retain their posts within the Bengaluru and Mysuru city limits.

As per the proposal, those who want the transfer to Bengaluru and Mysuru must serve minimum four years outside these two cities. Besides this all the officers must serve in all the districts or revenue zones for minimum period of time before or after serving in Bengaluru city. The state government has directed the police establishment board to prepare an amendment to the Aact in this regard.

Home minister Ramalinga Reddy confirmed that state government is considering the proposal. “But I can’t divulge any information in this regard till a final decision taken,” he said.

According to the sources in the state home department, the amendment bill will be presented in the upcoming winter session of the state legislature which will be conveyed at Belagavi.
