State govt slashes traffic fine amount; drunk and drive penalty unchanged

Bengaluru: Under pressure from various quarters, the state government slashed the fine amount of a few traffic rule violations. But there is no change in the fine amount for the drunk and drive.

According to a notification issued by the state transport department, revised traffic fine amount include giving the vehicle to unauthorized persons, which has been slashed from Rs.5,000 to Rs. 1,000 for the bikes and Rs.2,000 for Light Moto Vehicles. But the amount will be the same for the heavy vehicles.

A fine amount for driving without DL has been brought down to Rs. 1,000 (two-wheelers), and Rs.2,000 (light motor vehicles). Earlier it was Rs.5,000.

Fine for rash driving has been brought down to Rs.1,000 for two-wheelers while Rs.2,000 for Light Motor Vehicles. It was Rs.5,000 earlier.

The fine amount for use of mobile phones while driving has been slashed to Rs.1,500 for two-wheelers, and Rs.3,000 for Light Motors Vehicles. It was Rs.5,000 earlier.

Other major reductions include mandatory emission/ fitness certificate Rs.1,500 from Rs.10,000, driving without seat belt Rs.500 from Rs.1,000, blocking ambulance Rs. 1,000 from Rs.10,000, honking in the prohibited areas Rs.500 from Rs.1,000, driving without insurance Rs.1,000 from Rs.2,000, etc.
