Bengaluru: The state government, on Monday, has sought assistance from the Indian Embassy in Nepal for the 290 pilgrims, hailing from Karnataka who are stranded on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. A total of 500 pilgrims are said to be stranded in the region due to a landslide resulting from heavy rains.

While the pilgrims are said to be in a safe condition the prevailing bad weather conditions has ruled out the possibility of an evacuation at the moment. In a tweet, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), Revenue Department (Disaster Management), of the state government said, “Around 290 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrims from Karnataka stranded in Simikot, Nepal due to heavy rain in the Himalayan region.” Later it was informed that the pilgrims are safe and are said to be facing a shortage of food.

“I have instructed the Karnataka’s resident commissioner in Delhi to initiate required action,” tweeted Kumaraswamy.

As per a statement released by the CMO, the Indian Embassy has assured of extending all possible assistance to the stranded pilgrims and ensuring availability of food/water.
