Bengaluru: With the idea of decongesting the state’s capital city, Bengaluru, which is expected to experience a severe water crisis in the next couple of years, the state government has decided to extend the Namma Metro till Tumakuru. A proposal has already been made by the Railways to connect Tumakuru with Bengaluru using commuter trains.
Speaking at the annual general body meeting of the FKCCI, DCM Dr G Parameshwara announced this decision to extend the Namma Metro to Tumakuru. “The need of the hour is to decongest Bengaluru city. So, the state government is considering a proposal to extend the Namma Metro to Tumakuru. It will help the people re-locate to Tumakuru and travel daily between the two cities,” he said.
On the opposition to the Sharavati river diversion project, he asked from where else can water be brought to Bengaluru.
“There is no water in any part of the city. The groundwater level is falling. This is why we proposed a ban on apartment construction,” he said.
