Bengaluru: All these days, it was touted that the BMTC will be the first state-owned transport corporation to induct electric buses into its fleet. But now the state government has decided to stall the procurement process following the objections raised by transport minister D C Thammanna.
According to sources, when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister, the BMTC had decided to procure the electric buses from an Andhra-based company. But now, the current CM has directed Chief Secretary Vijaya Bhaskar to stall the process stating that the same company has been black-listed in Andhra.
The sources also said that the BMTC management and transport minister D C Thammanna were on a loggerhead over the decision. “The BMTC wanted to continue with the agreement, but the state government rejected it under pressure,” added an officer from the transport department.
