Bengaluru: In a move which is expected to help girl students pursue higher education easily, the state government has decided to make education up to Post Graduation, free for girl children. Professional courses, however, will not be free.
According to a decision taken in the state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, December 5, the state government will bear the fees of girl students studying in the PU, degree and post graduation levels. This will benefit 1.84 lakh girl students in the PG and degree levels and 1.33 lakh students studying at the PU level.
However, there is no clarity about whether this will apply to the private unaided colleges as well. “To ensure that it will benefit all the students, the scheme should be extended to the private colleges too,” said an officer from the state higher education department.
