Bengaluru: Recently, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) had ordered the verification of the CCTV footage of SSLC examination centers across the North Karnataka districts, following reports that teachers allowed students to indulge in mass copying. It was alleged that students were allowed to use textbooks to ensure a good passing percentage. But now, under pressure, the department has dropped the proposal.
According to sources, it all started with allegations of mass copying surfacing from the schools in the North Karnataka region. As the video clippings went viral, the DPI directed the SSLC examination center heads to submit the CCTV footage for verification.
Irked by this, the teachers’ associations started a protest and used the politicians to prevail over the department. If sources are to be believed, the DPI has dropped the proposal of verification budging down to mounting pressure.
