Bengaluru: Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar has apologised for his rape remark inside the state assembly, on Wednesday. He also expunged his words from the assembly documents.

All started with women MLAs from BJP including Shashikala Jolle and Rupali Nayak raising objections to the Speaker’s remark stating it is in bad taste, but the Congress MLAs defended his statement saying he didn’t give the statement purposefully.

Congress leader Lakshmi Hebbalkar stated that even though this statement pained her, the Speaker didn’t make such a statement purposefully.

As the assembly reconvened in the evening, speaker Ramesh Kumar apologised for his statement. He also ruled that his words are expunged from the documents.
