Bengaluru: A few hours after he tendered resignation taking moral responsibility for the poor performance of the party in the by-election, AICC interim president Sonia Gandhi reportedly rejected opposition leader Sidddaramaiah’s resignation. She asked him to continue as the opposition leader.
Mrs. Gandhi reportedly spoke to him for over 10 minutes on Monday late night. She also inquired the reasons for the poor performance of the party in the by-election.
According to the sources, Congress high command is well aware of the fact that only Siddaramaiah has the pan-Karnataka appeal, cutting across caste and religious lines. “So party is not in a mood to change him. He will be the party’s war horse even for the 2023 election,” he said.
A senior Congress leader informed Newskarnataka.com that Mrs. Gandhi is likely to appoint a new president for the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). “DK Shivakumar, former minister and a CM post aspirant is the main contender for the post,” he explained.
