Bengaluru: The state Congress unit is divided over a meeting ofAll India Congress Committee (AICC) interim-president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with party strongman from the state DK Shivakumar at the Tihar jail, on Monday.

A section of DKShi supporters are claiming that both the leaders met DKShi along with another jailed party leader P Chidambaram and reassured party’s support to them, but there are many who say that Gandhi and Singh only met Chidambaram and opted not to meet DKShi.
While sources close to Shivakumar informed that DKShi told the top leaders that he has been victimised for supporting AICC Treasurer Ahmed Patel win from Gujarat to Rajya Sabha and during the conversation DKShi has been assured support from the party, another section claims that neither of the two met DKShi.
“DKShi is not enjoying any special backing from the AICC. He has been asked to defend himself. Party is maintaining a distance from him as charges are serious,” said a leader. However, DKShi’s supports have said that DKShi and Chidambaram are housed in the same jail and hence it is but natural for the top leaders to meet both. DKShi and Chidambaram are both housed in jail number-7 of Tihar jail, which specifically allotted for the economic offenders.
