Bengaluru: The six-coach train of Namma Metro in the state capital will begin its full-fledged operations from today (Friday). Its inaugural journey will be on the Baiyappanahalli-Mysuru track.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister Dr.G.Parameshwara will flag off the six-coach train at Baiyappanahalli station on the Purple line at 5.30 pm. The train will move towards the Majestic station. The CM is expected to travel on the same train in its inaugural trip.

As 40% of the metro passengers are women according to a survey, the first coach of the train is earmarked for women. The new train will travel according to the density of passengers, officials of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) informed.

Three new coaches, purchased from Bharath Earth Movers Limited (BEML) have been connected to the old three coach train. BMRCL had planned to start the six-coach train service from April 15. However, due to delay in software installation, AC, seats, poles, wheels, design, electricity connection, and signaling, the service was postponed.

BEML has got the tender of providing 150 metro coaches to BMRCL in phases worth Rs. 1,421 crores. From July, BEML would provide 6-9 coaches every month to the BMRCL as per the agreement and all the coaches will be supplied by December 2019. Anyhow, BMRCL has requested the BEML to supply all coaches by June 2019.
