Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials recorded the statements from the parents of Parashurama Waghmare. Waghmare who has been arrested for the murder of senior journalist Gowri Lankesh has already confessed to the crime.
As per sources, Waghamre’s parents came from Vijayapura to the city last morning and attended the proceedings before the SIT. Meanwhile, parents gave some additional information regarding the behaviour of Parashurama Waghmare.
SIT also summoned Sri Rama Sene Vijayapura District Unit President Rakesh Matha to Bengaluru. He said, “The SIT officials have directed me to come. So, I am here and will cooperate with the investigation.”
The SIT decided to question Math since the suspected shooter of Lankesh, Parashuram Waghmare, was an active member of the Hindutva organisation linked to moral policing in parts of Karnataka, the official told PTI.
The official, from the SIT, said they wanted to find out whether Math was involved in Lankesh’s assassination and whether he “brainwashed” Waghmare to participate in the plot.
Math and Waghmare were allegedly involved in hoisting a Pakistani flag outside the tahsildar office in their hometown Sindagi of Vijayapura district in Karnataka in January 2012.
