Bengaluru: In a rare gesture, former chief minister Siddaramaiah congratulated the state government for implementing the Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Act.
The state government notified the act on Wednesday night.
In a tweet, Siddaramaiah stated that when he tried to implement the act, the BJP opposed it. “But I wish now the BJP will not go back from its decision,” he stated.
Several other JDS and Congress leaders also appreciated the government’s moves saying it is an important move towards developing the scientific temperament among the people.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that only the superstitious traditions of the lower castes are banned through this act. The practices followed by the upper castes have been left out of the purview.
