Bengaluru: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on April 16, issued a show-cause notice to a local television news channel for violating the broadcasting code and rules.
Referring to the TV channel’s segment “Helicopter Money- helicopternalli surithara Modi”, which was aired on April 15 at 8.30 PM, the Ministry termed the item “false, mischievous, and deliberate”.
“When the whole country is fighting the COVID-19, Your Channel, instead of creating awareness and educating the public, (is) spreading False information, Creating Panic and Social unrest,” the notice read.
Accusing the channel of violating the rules prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, the Ministry directed the TV news channel to “show cause” why their channel should not be taken off the air immediately.
They have been given 10 days to reply to the notice.
It can be recalled that just days ago, the channel in question had been accused of airing another piece of false news regarding the ‘seal down’ in Bengaluru.
