Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the police commissioner to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace missing software engineer Kumar Ajitabh and take over control of the investigation.

Justice A.S. Bopanna passed the interim order after examining the status report submitted by the jurisdictional police, which said they have not been able to get any clue about Ajitabh who is not to be seen since December 18, 2017.

The court directed the commissioner to post in the SIT senior officers who the commissioner believes will conduct the investigation properly and will be able to trace the missing person. The commissioner has been directed to submit a status report by January 22.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Ashok Kumar Sinha, father of Ajitabh, seeking directions to the State government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Ajitabh left home on December 18 apparently to meet a person who expressed interest in his online advertisement offering to sell his car.
