Bengaluru: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses will henceforth be running on a separate lane dedicated for it.
In its press statement, BMTC has clarified that the public and the commuters were already made aware of the changes made to ensure safe and smooth travelling in BMTC buses.
BMTC has opined that such a facility would allow the buses to ply without being disturbed by other vehicles. It has also stated that a separate line was opened in order to avoid traffic congestion in the city.
BMTC has said that on either side of the road, bus lanes will be made on which more than 800 buses will travel, on a daily basis. Each bus travelling on these lanes will have separate logos as unique identification. A bus junction will be constructed. Instruction boards and list of bus identification would be placed. Skywalk, parking facility, and bus stops will be made available. Bus timings, online facility and CCTV will also be in place.
BMTC has strictly prohibited parking and movement of other vehicles except for ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles on this lane.
The plan is to implement the change in the city’s 12 high-density corridors.
Meanwhile, in the first phase the bus lanes will be opened from Central Silk Board to K R Pura and Byappanhalli
