Bengaluru: In a surprise move, senior Congress leader and former minister Baburao Chinchansur switched over sides to the BJP on Wednesday, August 29.
BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa welcomed the new entrant into the fold of the party at an event held here. This move by the former MLA of Gurmitkal may prove to be a big blow to the Congress in the upcoming local body and Lok Sabha elections in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
Explaining his decision, Chinchansur alleged that the Congress party workers had worked to defeat him in the assembly elections fearing his rise to power. He was defeated in the recent election to the assembly against Janata Dal (S) candidate Naganagowda Kandkur at a whopping margin of 25,000 votes. “I was saddened by the working style of Congress party and decided to join the BJP,” he added.
