Mangaluru: Confusions and commotion broke out at the border check posts as the inter-district borders were sealed as per the government orders to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Parents of several students who are studying in various colleges across Mangaluru city were seen airing their grievance after they were denied entry into Mangaluru city.
“They announced the shutdown only last night. We left our home this morning and we are here to pick our children. They have stopped us here and we are unable to cross the checkpost,” said a parent, who came from Chikkamagaluru to pick her son from Mangaluru.
They were all stopped near Hejamady checkpost, which is the border of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
One of the parents said that the police are asking them to to inform the college authorities and urge them to arrange transport facilities so that their kids can be ferried till the border checkposts.
Another parent said that when such major decisions are made some window has to be given for preparations.
Meanwhile, in the city, Mangaluru City police had placed barricades at key points of the city including Dr B R Ambedkar Circle and prevented people from unnecesarily wandering in the city.
Though the city witnessed outstanding response for Janata Curgew, the attitude of the people was rather lackadaisical on Monday.
When police prevented vehicles from moving further, some resorted to arguing with the police personnel citing some silly reasons.
“There are some coming out just to see how deserted the city looks,” said a cop on conditions of anonymity.
The lockdown was imposed on nine sensitive dstricts in wake of coronavirus outbreak on Sunday night.
It was clearly said that only essential services will be provided and general public should remain indoors, unless it is absolutely necessary.
However, people are seen wandering on streets without any reason.
“Eveything needs to be imposed. People do not understand the seriouseness of the issue. Helmets are for their safety, but that needs to be imposed. Self-quarantine and this curfew too is for their safety, but even this needs to be imposed,” said another traffic cop in the city.
