Bengaluru: As the state witnesses political high drama outside the Nitesh Apartment on Race Course Road, where the rebel independent MLAs R Shankar and Nagesh are residing with the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party party workers attacking each other, the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Alok Kumar has clamped Section 144 for the next two days in the city.
Speaking to media, he said, “Section 144 is clamped for the next two days in the city. It will be in effect from today, i.e., Tuesday, July 23 6 PM to Thursday, July 25 6 PM.”
As the state coalition is going for a floor test today, the police, anticipating protests coupled with violence in the Vidhana Soudha vicinity, has imposed the prohibitory order.
As per the section, there is a prohibition on assembly of more than five persons in public places, processions, protests and public meeting during this period.
Also carrying lethal weapons such as knife, swords, stones etc., and explosive items is banned.
Carrying effigy of any person, raising slogans, singing, usage of sign languages and drawing pictures are prohibited.
