Bengaluru: It was first of its kind protest in the city. The students mostly, from the local government schools, climbed a JCB which was brought by a few locals to destroy their playground. The students shouted slogans against ground encroachment and warned that they will not allow the BBMP and the BDA to enter their areas if their ground is not saved.

This is the scene directly from the Ramakrishnanagar ground in Nandini layout of the city, on Saturday. The students were upset with the BDA and the BBMP. The students said that the authorities were helping a few private persons to grab their playground.

All started on Friday with a few locals fencing the ground claiming that it is their land. On Saturday, they bought a JCB to start digging works. Local students who were upset by this act barged inside the area and climbed the JCB. As the news spread actor Chetan also extended his support to the protest.

According to the sources, the BDA, under pressure of a few politicians distributed the land to a few organisations.

The protest was withdrawn after an assurance from the BDA authorities that they will look into the issue.
