Bengaluru: The Banaswadi police have arrested fathers of five minors after the boys were caught performing stunts on modified bikes on a busy Banaswadi main road on Thursday.
The police, ever since a minor lost his life in a car race that went horribly wrong on Hosur Road Elevated Expressway in last month, have been cracking down on instances of minors indulging in street racing, and arresting parents who own the vehicle.
In the latest case, the fathers of five minors have been arrested after the boys were caught performing stunts on modified bikes on a busy road in Banaswadi on Thursday.
“We have seized seven modified bikes from them and arrested their fathers under various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. The parents have been released on bail, but we intend to initiate legal action against them,” said a senior police officer. The juveniles were booked for reckless and dangerous driving, counselled, and produced before the Juvenile Board, where they were granted bail. Enquiries revealed that the boys would upload videos and photographs of them performing stunts like wheelies on social media to impress others, said Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) R. Hitendra.
Following the death of the 17-year-old in September, the police had launched a drive to crackdown on racing and stunts. Over 600 cases have been booked in the last 10 days.
