Bengaluru: The residents of Somasundarapalya and surrounding areas, who were protesting in front of the Karnataka Compost Development Corporation (KCDC) plant at HSR Layout, called off their protest after a meeting with Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Solid Waste Management (SWM), Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.
“The Joint Commissioner gave a patient hearing to our problems and admitted that he did not have an alternative solution to how to process the 150 tonnes of waste being brought to the plant every day,” said a resident of the area.
A meeting has been fixed between residents and the BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad on Thursday. On Khan’s advice, the residents started allowing garbage trucks to enter the plant. Around 70 residents had prevented trucks from entering the plant on Sunday.
The residents say that they have been given false assurances by the BBMP in the last three years. “If the BBMP continues to tell us to wait until the situation improves, we will take to the streets again,” said Padela, one of the residents.
