Bengaluru: Ending speculation that she was sacked as the social media head of Congress, Divya Spandana (Ramya) clarified that she was on leave and that she would come back to work on Thursday.
Rumours were abuzz since Wednesday because of the empty bio section of Ramya’s profile on Twitter. Her timeline which had no updates since September 29 only added to more speculation of her being fired. Some media sections even reported that she had left her position on the insistence of her party because of the FIR filed against her.
Previously, Ramya was booked for sedition by the Uttar Pradesh police for her tweet against Prime Minister Narendra Modi where it showed his wax statue with the word ‘Chor’ photoshopped on it with a hashtag of ‘Chor PM Chup Hai’. After being booked under the Sedition Act, she again tweeted #PMChorHai and called for the Act to be repealed.
Following the tweet, many supporters of BJP and the PM called for Ramya to be ousted and Lucknow-based lawyer Syed Rizwan Ahmad even warned Ramya that if she would not delete the tweet and apologized, he would file an FIR against her.
Ramya was given the role of the head of the social media wing of All India Congress in May 2017.
