Bengaluru: All India Congress Committee supremo Rahul Gandhi has been invited to contest from Karnataka by the party’s state unit. A letter in this regard was written to the party president by the president of the KPCC, Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday, March 18.

In the letter, Rao said that his candidature from the state would “boost the rank and file” of the party in the state and in South India. “The ruling NDA is losing its shine and our alliance in the south is on a strong wicket,” he added.

Sources said that as the JDS did not wish to contest from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, RaGa could bolster the alliance between the Congress and the JDS by contesting from the same. They also believe that RaGa’s candidature will help with morale in the party and encourage them to work together with their coalition partner.

Party sources also say that there are calls for the AICC president to contest from Tamil Nadu as the ‘anti-Modi wave’ is strong in that region.
