PU students to get grace marks for English, Physics

Bengaluru: An expert committee has decided to allot grace marks to 2nd year pre-university students, who wrote their examination recently.

A total of six grace marks will be allotted. For compulsory questions in English, students will get 2 marks and 1 for Physics. Those attempted multiple choice questions will get additional 5 marks, said PU Department Director C Shikha.

Grace marks are given to compensate for grammatical, spelling and printing errors in both English and Physics question papers.

Grace marks will be indicated in the answer scripts to assist evaluators. Earlier, evaluators used to allot grace marks, if the questions appeared outside syllabus and for unclear, irrelevant questions.

Evaluators had decided to boycott evaluation and decided to take part in protests. But that decision was withdrawn following negotiations between Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait and Karnataka State PU College Lecturers’ Association. Thimmaiah Purle, President of Karnataka State PU College Lecturers’ Association said the decision was taken following assurance by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of fulfilling their long pending demand of increasing wages.
