Bengaluru: Till now, poor parents struggled to pay for their kids transport in the month of June, as the KSRTC and BMTC would start distribution of the passes only after mid-July. This created a lot of inconvenience for both the students and their parents. Keeping in mind the difficulties faced by them, the KSRTC and BMTC have decided to allow the students to use their old passes till June 30.
According to the authorities, the students can now travel on the same stretch prescribed last year with their previous year’s bus pass by showing their 2019-20 school ID card.
“This facility will be extended if there is further delay in the distribution of the new bus passes,” informed authorities from the state transport department.
“It is not easy for poor families to spend over Rs 2,000 per month on bus passes. This decision has been taken by taking into consideration the problems faced by these families,” explained the authorities.
Naturally, the students are happy with the KSRTC’s and BMTC’s decision. “It will help the poor families a lot. It was an old demand and finally, the government has responded to our request,” said Satish Kumar, a city college student and resident of Sadashivanagar.
