prakash deepikaBengaluru: Award winning actor Prakash Raj has lent his support to Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer “Padmavati” which is embroiled in a controversy across the nation.

Raj who had expressed his opinion sharply be it in activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh murder case or the recent Kamal Hassan’s entry into politics, has now come out in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical movie Padmavati. Raj who has not shied away from expressing his views on recent issues, tweeted in support of the release of “Padmavati” and two other films Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi film Nude and Sexy Durga directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan which were dropped from the 48th International Film Festival of India by I&B ministry.

Raj took to twitter and wrote,

“To whomsoever it may concern
One wants to cut a nose..one wants to behead an artist..
One wants to shoot an actor down… and the system wants to remove certain films from a film festival in spite of being selected by a jury
And you want us to believe that there are no acts of intolerance ..?
silencing voices.. ?terrorizing ..?…..#justasking’

Karni Sena has been opposing the Bhansali film alleging it to be a total distortion of historical facts. Raj called Karni Sena and other outfits, a threat to the lead actors and the director of “Padmavati” and their activities acts of terror and intolerance.

Bhansali has been facing the ire of various groups and self-styled experts on what they term as “erroneous” depiction of Rajput queen Rani Padmavati. There have been protests and violence against Bhansali and opposition to the film right from the time it was being shot at various locales in different parts of India and now, as it prepares for release globally soon.

Barring these groups and individuals, the entire film fraternity and civil society members have expressed support to Bhansali for his latest film venture.
