Bengaluru: The postal department released a special postage stamp, postcard and first-day cover to memorialize the golden jubilee celebrations of the Christ Deemed to be University.
At a function held at the campus on July 11, the memorabilia were officially released by Postmaster General of Southern Karnataka Region S Rajendra Kumar.
Earlier in the day, Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Thomas C Mathew declared the commencement of the Golden Jubilee year celebrations of the Christ Deemed to be University. He recalled the modest beginning of the college on July 15, 1969, with only 350 students and 15 instructors. In the 50 years, the institution has grown in name and fame where over 21,000 students are being trained under the tutelage of more than 1,000 teaching staff, he said.
Though quantity is important, Fr. Mathew said, what sets Christ Deemed to be University apart is its emphasis on quality of education. Highlighting the institution's motto of excellence and service, he said the students should always apply the values enshrined in the motto in their daily life and enrich the world as "Christites" committed to the service of the people.
Pro-chancellor Dr. Fr. Abraham V M, Registrar Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto, President of Christ University Alumni Association Jugnu Uberoi among others were present for the event.
The formal inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations will be held on July 14. Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Maharaja of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation in India Dr. Sudha Murthy and former minister B Ramalinga Reddy will take part in the celebratory event.
On July 21, a special meet up of alumni association and teaching staff would be held. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Dr. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Infosys co-founder and non-executive chairman Nandan Nilekani and Minister for Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Krishna Byre Gowda will grace the event.
