Bengaluru: On January 2, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) had announced that they would be running the metro trains once every 3.5 minutes instead of 4 minutes, during peak hours on the purple line while on the green line, the trains would run once every 6 minutes.
The BMRCL has now rolled back to the old schedule stating poor response to the change as the reason. Executive Director of Operations, BMRCL, A S Shankar said that before any long term decisions were made, they would continue to take a thorough look at the commuter numbers.
The BMRCL had originally decided to increase the frequency of trains following complaints received from commuters regarding the crowded coaches. Metro services were also interrupted twice on January 2, due to an internal problem with the network of power supply. The problem was fixed at night on the same day, after service hours.
BMRCL Spokesman U A Vasanth Rao stated that this occurrence was not usual as power is obtained from the next grid in the case of a grid failure.
