Bengaluru: Polling in Bengaluru’s RR (Rajarajeshwari) Nagar began today, May 28 at 7 am and is scheduled to go on till 6 pm. Earlier, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had declared today as a holiday for the constituents to ensure that all the 4,71,459 voters showed up to vote.

The voting in RR Nagar was postponed to May 28, while the rest of the state (save for Jayanagar where polling will be held on June 11) went to vote on May 12. The voting in this constituency was rescheduled after 9567 voter’s ids were found in a flat in Jalahalli on May 9. Congress incumbent MLA Muniratna is one of the accused in the case.

Election officials have said that the voter’s ids found in the flat have been returned to their respective owners.

There are a total of 14 candidates fighting it out in the constituency, four of them being independents. The BJP has fielded Tulasi Muniraju Gowda as their candidate, while the JD(S) has fielded former BJP contractor GH Ramachandra and the Congress has fielded incumbent MLA Muniratna. Although the Congress and the JD(S) have formed a post poll alliance, there is said to be a friendly fight between the two candidates.

Counting of votes for this constituency is scheduled for May 31.
