Bengaluru: The police have arrested the alleged killer of a city-based paying guest accommodation owner, found murdered on Wednesday. He was nabbed at Ludhiana in Punjab.

The police have identified the accused as Shivshankar Mahatho, 25, from Bihar. He reportedly told police that a crime thriller episode motivated him to plan and execute the murder. The knife used to murder Reddy has also been recovered.

Shankar, who has been living in the labourers’ quarters of Moti Nagar in Ludhiana, revealed to police that he had switched off the CCTV before murdering his employer Thirumala Reddy on Tuesday last, and fled with Rs 3 lakh in cash.

Reddy, 58, was found dead with his throat slit at his BTM Layout house on Wednesday at 7am when his son Eshwar Reddy, who lives in the same locality, went to see his father.

As the cook, Shankar, had been missing from since that day, the family suspected him of murdering Reddy. It was said that Shankar had a heated argument with his employer over money. On Tuesday, when Reddy received a payment of Rs 3.5 lakh, Shankar saw him keeping the money in the almirah and planned the murder.
