Bengaluru: Soon, the prisoners of the Parappana Agrahara jail will launch their own community radio. A total of 20 prisoners have been selected for training in this regard.
According to jail superintendent V Sheshamurthy, the motive behind the initiative is to help the prisoners showcase their talents. “the prisoners will soon be trained by renowned radio professionals on how to run a radio station and anchor. The radio will be operated between 6 AM and 6 PM. It will have all the events and a variety of programmes have been planned,” he explained.
“The shows will be broadcasted in all the barracks through the speakers. This is the first time such an attempt is being made in the state,” he said.
According to sources in the state prison department, on a pilot basis, 20 prisoners will be trained on how to run a community radio station. “Efforts will be made to incorporate events like debate, discussions and live cultural events,” explained another officer.
“If we get a good response, we will extend it to other prisons as well,” he said.
