Bengaluru: City Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Rao has said that there are over 3 lakh illegal Bangladeshi immigrant workers staying illegally in the city. “It is increasing day by day,” he stated.

Speaking at an event organised on the welfare of construction labourers, he said that most of these illegal immigrant labourers are found in construction sites. “Local labourers demand anywhere from Rs 300 to Rs 600, while the Bangla workers are ready to work for just Rs 150. So the builders and contractors prefer them,” he said.

“This is one of the biggest reasons for human trafficking,” he added.

“Over the last five years, over 356 labourers died in construction sites. The places where these labourers stay also become a den for criminal activities. These things need to be addressed,” he said.
