Karnataka State Legislative Assembly has approved Karnataka State Universities and Certain Other Laws (second Amendment) Ordinance-2020, which gives the KSOU its new status.

The new Act empowers universities to extend the benefit of correspondence or external degree courses to students outside the University area.

It permits only the Karnataka State Open University to offer correspondence courses within/outside the university area.

Addressing a news conference Vice-Chancellor Prof S Vidyashankar said that the KSOU has been making quality education accessible to all the aspirants.

Earlier, the bill was tabled by Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan in the Assembly and he said that all other conventional universities which are offering distant education programmes will have to stop the same.

The University is also celebrating its 25 years of existence.
