Bengaluru: In a shocking incident that occurred on Sunday morning, a labourer stabbed several people, injuring six and killing one person. He was soon overpowered by the police, who seized the weapon and took him into custody.
The labour has been identified as 30-year-old Ganesh, who went to a butcher’s shop in the Cottonpet area to purchase meat. From here, he stole a knife, ran away, and began stabbing people at random.
According to a report by TNM, the man wandered around the area in Anjanappa Garden, Bakshi Garden and Balekai Mandi where he is said to have stabbed morning walkers and other pedestrians.
The police informed that one of the stabbing victims, 30-year-old Mari, who was also a labourer, succumbed to the injuries at a hospital, while another person who was critically injured is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
While the motive behind the attack is yet unknown, Ganesh has been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder).
According to one of Ganesh’s family members, he was struggling with mental health issues and was undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS). The claim is being verified by the police, according to a DH report.
