Bengaluru: Here is an example of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help government agencies make life safer for the public. The state-owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched a unique project where AI equipment will be used to keep an eye on night bus drivers.

If their eyes are droopy and show signs of having fallen asleep, the instrument will alert the concerned authorities. Presently, this machine is being used in 11 KSRTC buses.

According to the authorities, the AI equipment will be installed in 500 buses. “This machine will work on sensors. They will keep track of the drivers’ eyelids during night journeys. This is being done to ensure that the night service is safe,” explained an officer.

“Even if the bus moves in a zigzag style, the instrument sends alerts to the control room as well as the bus crews. The pilot project was implemented a year ago,” he concluded.
