Bengaluru: Drinking water supply would not be hit in Bengaluru city till June as there is enough Cauvery water to meet the demand, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said on Tuesday, March 27.
During the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) monthly council meeting, many corporators raised the issue of the water crisis and its impending effects in the city.
Ruling party leader in the BBMP Council M Shivaraj said Cauvery water is not available in many areas, including 100 villages in the city limits.
“All residents in my ward are complaining that they are having sleepless nights as the water is being supplied early in the morning between 1 am and 2 am,” said Nandini V, a corporator from Girinagar.
A few more corporators have also expressed similar concern.
S Kemparamaiah, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB said: “The city gets water from Kabini and Cauvery. Whatever the amount of water is filled up until September will be used until June. We have about 11,000 TMC of water and we are ready to pump 1,400 MLD until June.”
The BWSSB has 64 water tankers to supply water to people in case of a crisis, the officer added. However, he said that the frequent power cuts have caused problems in the continuous supply of water.
Meanwhile, Mayor R Sampath Raj promised to solve most of the water-related problems and to hold a review meeting in a week to solve the water crisis.
