Bengaluru: The state transport department has directed all the Region Transport Authorities (RTOs) to not renew the permissions of passenger vehicles, which are more than 15-years-old.
A direction has been issued in this regard keeping in mind the safety of the passengers. All these years, the permission of 15 years old vehicles were renewed after producing a fitness certificate.
“This decision has been taken keeping in mind the Mandya bus tragedy that took place on November 24, 2018. The mishap had claimed 30 lives. All these days, the rule was followed only in the city limits.However, the owners of the vehicles used to sell the vehicles to rural areas.The new notification is applicable to both the urban and the rural areas,” informed an officer.
As per the new notification, all the passenger vehicle owners will have to change the vehicle after 15 years. “Route permit will be allowed only if the vehicle is in good condition,” he added.
