Bengaluru: Dozens of MLAs/ MLCs are trying for a ministerial berth in the Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah cabinet. But among the senior ministers, no one wants Home Department which will be relieved by incumbent Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwar in a day or two. This is the latest cabinet reshuffle/ rejig headache of Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah.
According to the reliable sources in the state unit of Congress, following Dr. G Parameshwar’s resignation to the post of home minister, Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah wants to appoint any senior minister for that post, but surprisingly, nobody wants to take up the responsibility fearing the lashing they would face in case of law and order disturbance cropping up in any part of the state.
“Everyone wants to have their political career blotch-free. Home is a difficult department to handle and leaders are playing it safe when assembly elections are around,” he said.
“When Dr Parameshwar tendered his resignation it was assumed that either KJ George or DK Shivakumar may become the new home minister. But both the leaders have made it clear that they don’t want the portfolio. RV Deshpande, HC Mahadevappa and Roshan Baig too have declined the portfolio. Now the CM is considering appointing either TB Jayachandra or HC Mahadevappa as the new home minister, ” said a party insider.
Meanwhile, Lingayat strongman from Ballari, former KPCC president Allam Veerabhadrappa is expected to make it to the state cabinet in the next expansion. “Allam and former minister Motamma had recently met AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi to lobby for ministerial berth,” said sources.
