Namma Metro train to function with six coaches from June 22

Bengaluru: Come June 22, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro train will start functioning with 6-coaches for the first time. Railway Board has given a green signal to the test report submitted by the commission of Railway Safety (CRS), the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will get a copy on Monday.

BMRCL Managing Director Mahendra Jain informed that K A Manoharan of CRS will finish the final evaluation of the six-coach train before Wednesday and all preparations are being done for the inauguration ceremony on June 22.

It may be recalled that Bharath Earth Movers Limited (BEML) had handed over 3 new coaches to BMRCL on February 14. The test run of the six-coach train in Nayandahalli- Baiyappanahalli route was initiated on April 19. The six-coach train has undergone various tests in two months.

BEML has got the tender of providing 150 metro coaches to BMRCL in phases worth Rs.1,400 crores. From July, BEML would provide 6-9 coaches every month to the BMRCL as per the agreement and all the coaches will be supplied by December 2019. Namma Metro will be converted from 3-coach train to 6-coach train with these new coaches.
