Bengaluru: If sources in the state police department and home department are to be believed, over-enthusiasm by a section of police in Mangaluru allegedly resulted in the confusion surrounding the explosive found in the premises of the Mangaluru International Airport. The state government is now likely to take disciplinary action against a few for planting stories in media through their sources.

According to the sources, media reporters citing the police called the object as an IED, which cause a lot of confusion. “A section of police used the media intelligently. Another group, which was aware of it informed all the inside details to JDS leader, former CM HD Kumaraswamy. He blatantly went attacking the police due to the same reason, ” explained highly placed sources.

“HDK was very well aware of the fact that it was not an IED from the very beginning. That is why he went public against the police and the BJP government creating embarrassment,” sources added.

“The police even influenced the media persons through a selective leak. All will be inquired thoroughly,” sources explained adding that many want to be heroes in the department and they use the media for the same purpose, but after Mangaluru episode HDK became the hero.
