Mandya bus tragedy: Police arrest driver 16 days after incident

Bengaluru: The Pandavapura police arrested Shivanna, the driver of the ill-fated ‘Rajakumar’ bus which plunged into the Visvesvaraya Canal claiming the lives of 30 passengers, in Bengaluru on Sunday night.

The bus plunged into the canal in the Kanaganamaradi village of the Pandavapura taluk in Mandya on November 24, claiming 30 lives including that of a 2-year-old.

According to the police, Shivanna, a resident of Doddakoppalu village of the Pandavapura taluk, jumped from the bus seconds before it was submerged. He escaped through the sugarcane fields and reached Bengaluru, where he was in hiding.

The police will produce the arrested driver before a Pandavapura court on Monday morning.
